    There are many more choices today than there were in the 80s and in several cases, brookbank is dead wrong on how some of those varieties will act in the low desert (sunset zone 23).

    As a child, i learned things about growing fruit and vegetables, passed down to me from my parents and grandparents, that most city folks only read about in books of folklore.

    The author explained everything i needed to know to become a successful gardener (again) in a new, unfamiliar and harsh environment: from amending my desert soil to choosing what to plant and when, how to extend the growing season(s) and how to respond to region-specific pests and problems.

    If you are struggling to grow vegetables in the southwest desert, or are new to vegetable gardening here, buy this book or, at the very least, look for it at your local library.
