The characters are vivid to me, and the plot unfolds effortlessly.

Tony dunbar's stories of lawyer tubby dubonnet are marvelous. The author weaves a lot of history and local color of new orleans into his stories. River pollution, * deals, gambling casino, lake fishing provide the locales.

His detective work is often possible because of his long time connections in new orleans. A human desire for revenge is forgiven with unusual rationale. Vengeance is mine says the lord, but should vengeance be taken by a family member?

Lawyer tubby dubonnet defends those in need for payments ranging from one praline to a five dollar bill. He has a passion for fishing; divorced, with understandable regrets the marriage couldn't be made to work; with three grown and almost grown daugh... Read More

Cons

Not a story to hold my interest. Not much flavor of new orleans. Too much drinking. If you’re looking for three-dimensional characters that jump off the page, i’d recommend looking elsewhere. Plot isn't compelling.

For better or worse, the beads appear only as local color, since no one ever "earns" them. Just not my kind of book.

I would have liked to have the characters better filled in and keeping some of the minor characters organized was a bit of a challenge
