Pros

Sharpness is decent wide open in the center. Images are true to life with no distortion and it's tack sharp at all apertures. Optics are very sharp and produce great colors.

Do not hesitate. That old lens is worthless compared with this new version. It's dramatically less expensive than the l series, but will get you over 75% of the quality of the l series before switching to canon.

I shoot a lot of skateboarding and it is really fast to focus. Excellent focusing under nearly all conditions. Ultrasonic motor does its job and does it quietly.
