The caldwell has slightly better noise isolation than the howard but not as good as ear plug

Each ear piece is made of a hard cup with a small and a large pieces of low density sponge in it

Comfort wise the muff is a bit too tight and too stiff even after i bent the ashaped metal clip

Finally i had to stuff a baby sock into each ear cup then the sound isolation become close to the foam ear plug
