After clipping out 10 times the right one now shifts to the right no matter how much i tighten the screws. This ensures i can't get out of the pedal.

I find that with the metal plate the clips are more prone to moving positions when you twist your foot to disengage the bike

To be fair though they were probably about 10 years old and things change
