This thing looks like plastic but it is stainless steel covered in delrin a type of plastic and the reason is that the carabiner that attaches to it will not make as much noise

I have been using blackrapid sling straps for 8 years and the noise of the carabiner on a metal coupler is actually a thing

All of them were rusted after only 2 ocean dives

The one that attached the camera to the bcd retractor was rusted and the dring portion had stretched so much by the end of the trip 8 dives that the pins had almost been pulled out of the screwhead and the camera would have been lost

I have the older style carabiner on my black rapid curve and this would not slide into the carabiner with the lock installed
