    So i emailed beurer, who clarified that it’s the control unit that can’t be allowed to get too hot (by being covered).

    The other issue is that it can’t be scrunched or sharply folded as this will damage the wires and trigger the safety shut off.

    It doesn't get as hot as say a microwave hot water bottle but as it's electric it holds the heat.

    Put onto 3 for couple of mins then down to 1 (or if gets more painful nowhere left to go) on lowest setting it really is very soothing, genuinely comforting like a good old fashioned hotwater bottle without the worry of blisters, leaking or filling something with boiling water.
