The only impact will be that it adds about an inch to the height of the bulb which may affect the looks of your fixture a bit for instance causing a standard globe shaped bulb to protrude farther from a fluted glass base

Attached to an a19 led bulb it didnt seem to be any longer or shorter than the cfl with built in gu24 prongs that it replaced
