Bagels do have to be placed with fronts to the outside of the toaster.

That's kind of a bizarre request to make of a stranger but i felt this toaster could only be described in that fashion because of its attention to every detail.

The gadgets on the side (they look like tuning knobs) really do decide what color your toast will become (i'm a #4 girl myself) and it has a setting to defrost as well as toast.
