    Even though someone left the cooler drain plug open the whole trip, the arctic ice kept everything cold even when the ice tried to melt away.

    When the ice melts, the 28 degree ice pack refreezes some of the water creating more ice.

    Comparing the latent heat energy to that of water suggests these will not cool as well.

    In fact most materials don't (i have found 0 that have freezing temps around ice that outperform ice).
