Update: I've read some of the negative reviews on this product and I'm surprised that people think the filter is the end all be all for keeping a clean pool. Some reviews show pictures of incredibly dirty pools - floaties everywhere and hair and other gunk all over the bottom. Others show the surface strainer that's totally clogged with bugs, grass, hair and other gunk. Others show yucky slimy green water that suggests poor to no chemical use.Look people, whatever filter medium you use whether sand or these fantastic filter balls has to be used in conjunction with chemicals and just keeping the water free from floaties, bugs, and the gunk. It's simply not reasonably to blame this amazing product for your inability to manage your pool’s hygiene. I get that no one wants to vacuum their pool. The job sucks - no pun intended... I hate to have to deal with the hair, leaves, grass, and whatever else ends up in the pool. You gotta deal with it though. Expecting your pool filter to magically fix this kind of disgustingness is just not reasonable. To the person with the green pool. Shock your pool once in a while. Add a skimmer sock and clean the balls a few times and voila problem solved. To the person with the nasty gunk filled pool - dude find a vacuum or siphon out the grossness! To the person complaining about dark/discolored filter balls. Wash the balls and move on. It's not a sand filter and back washing isn't going to clean the balls in the same way it helps clean the sand. Keep in mind that with these balls you no longer have sand in your pool either or the mess involved with replacing it.Sorry folks to unload. I’m not an apologist for the company and I’m sure there’s some legitimate negative reviews, but when I read people blaming this product for their blatant disregard for good pool hygiene, I gotta say something...Ok on to my review:I couldn't be happier with these poly pool filter balls. This is the second summer I've ordered and am using them. They're about 4x the size of a traditional cotton ball - although they're not cotton. They are denser poly fill material that does well at keeping/retaining the larger round shape even after a summer of use. They fill the pool filter hopper where the sand would otherwise go and perform the same filtering that the sand would do only without the mess and strain on the pool filter. I used one-bag (1.5lbs) of these balls in my filter last year in lieu of a 50lb bag of sand. You’ll think it’s not enough, but my great experience proved it was. After about a month of filtering our pool I pulled them out and washed them with light detergent in our washing machine inside of a mesh unmentionables bag... Voila like new again – same size and feel as when I first opened the new bag. I ended up washing/re-using them a couple of times throughout the summer without issue.I bought another bag of them this year to start off new and fresh for the summer. I expect, so long as I have a pool, I’ll get a new bag every year. Hope this helps. Read Less
