Pros & Cons
Pros
These wheels came delivered safely in a single box. They weigh in at over a pound heavier than the bontrager wheels. They are comparable in weight and roiling resistance to the wheels they replaced on my 30 year old bianchi.
Bontrager 23 x 700 tires look like they will slice through the air with no problems. This is a no brainer, especially if you have any sort of steel rim on your bike now. Lacing is 20 radial front and 24 2x rear.
For fitness buffs like me, they are fantastic. Custom paint and all. An indication of hand building.
Rear wheel is pretty creaky pulling some of the steeper hills here in seattle. Also, i like to ride with my brake pads as tight as possible.
The only thing is you almost definitely need a cone wrench because the bearing cones are way overtightened, at least on mine.
Cons
The join on the rim is quite pronounced and can be felt and heard when braking on the bike. The worst parts about the wheels are the hubs. There is a lot of friction in the rotation of the wheel.
Highlights
Quality
After a fair amount of amazon reading i chose these tires and was very pleased with the purchase
With the summer months coming up i will be doing 50 to 80 miles a day
You can not go wrong with the wheelset
Installed on my miyata road bike with the shimano hg51 8speed cassette
Price
Only negative is that they are heavy but given the price they are worth it
The price was unbeatable but i should have looked more carefully when reading the description
Shipping
I ride hard and fast and have hit many curbs and everything else at decent speeds
Packaging/appearance
I have ridden these wheels for two seasons and they are as true as the day i pulled them out of the box
These wheels are the same weight as the wtb wheels trek put on the 7300fx
Packaging could have been a little more protective but i got lucky with my set
The bontragers developed cracks in the rims
Competitiveness
I purchased these to replace a set of chinesium wheels that came on my motobacon
A little on the heavy side but you cant beat the price
18 miles into my first ride on them i hit a fistsized rock which didnt throw me but did flatten both brandnew tires with new tubes
I have to say they do take a beating
