Before purchasing this device i bought similar product but based on rtl8153 controller and failed to get gigabit connection in windows 8

No you will get a very clumsy power cord with it as well

This means you may be forced to install the drivers even if you want to use it as a basic hub

When i bought this unit it was one of the cheaper options available for the feature set
