As a budding historian who is embarrassingly ignorant when it comes to the war of 1812, i wanted a book that told the whole story, focusing on traditional historiography (emphasis on the political and military history, as opposed to the postmodern social, intellectual and cultural emphases) but dived in deeper than a textbook would.
