As i was heating up water for the mash and later cooling the wort i used my digital infrared thermometer and directed the laser at the tip of the 1 x brewcraft 12 ss' dial thermometer which appeared to read the same temperature that the digital one was indicating.

I didn't have this problem, but i don't see how it matters, seeing as though the laws of physics dictate that the temperature of liquid h2o can never exceed the boiling point (and that only boiling water is generally ever added for subsequent step infusions anyhow).

We purchased this to use for homebrewing when our previous thermometer was reading widely inaccurate.

Well, don't disrespect your equipment and you won't have these problems.

But i dropped it on the floor once by accident, and then it at boiling it read close to 218f instead of 212f while my digital unit from the same manufacturer reads 212f.

To reflect my happiness, i've added one star to give it a 5-star rating.
