These are really hold-open arms with a friction dampener. We usually associate soft close with an air- or spring- damped hinge. The hinge works perfectly for our needs.
There is tension but it is not intended to close a heavy lid slowly. It soft closes 75% of the way and slams hard the last 25%. Now my chest lid has holes in it, and still doesn't soft close.
None of the brackets are assembled in the same manner. The angles of the bracket insure poor alignment. Installation instructions are small diagrams with dimensions.

The instructions are simple and clear. Easy to install. These are sooo worth it.
The correct screw hole angle was the key to installing the dampler flush with the cabinet. Angle is correct if the chuck head rubs against the top of the cabinet opening when you finish drilling.
Even at the lightest setting it stops a standard cabinet door from closing. Leaves doors open and is very inconvenient. The screw holes for mounting it are tiny.
The body is plastic, and they are not easy to install securely. It is not nickel chrome but plastic and flimsy plastic.
