The thermometer alone is $7-10 and you’ll need one of those anyways. First test you're heater in a bucket to dial in you're temps and make sure the heater works. Will continue to monitor the temp.

It keeps my tank between 76-82 degrees.
It only heats, and heats, then heats some more. It works by just heating the water in the tank while the heat also escapes into the surrounding air. The water was overheated.
Caveat emptor. I wish i'd spent a little more, & gotten one that would work for a longer period of time. Don't usually even write reviews.
