The adhesive backing keeps it firmly in place and allows it to last longer. It prevents sliding on hardwood floors, wood floors, laminate or tile flooring.
The adhesive is not good at all. Still moves anytime someone sits down and we are constantly having to move the couch back in place.
They are thicker than the small hemispherical dots one sometimes sees on cabinet doors and drawers. Putting these on also makes the doors so much quieter and they are so easy to use. They do not dampen the door closing sound very much.
