There is an outer ring that surrounds the light and this is the second light. The remote offers a single button temperature change. Hold down the power button on the remote and then turn the light switch back on.

Even though it's plastic, it feels really sturdy and well-made. The colors are also awesome. I have 2 other kids that are getting theses as presents they love them so much.
