If you press on it longer it switches between fahrenheit and centigrade. Water temperature is accurate according to my glass thermometer. This one has a temperature read-out, while the other just has a knob you can set.

Drop this into a fish tank or water reservoir for a hydroponic garden. I love that is displays the temp right there in the tank. Not very bright at night when the lights are off so it gives the top of the water a warm glow.
