Most things are easier to do through the app than through the device itself. For my wife, it's as easy as responding to a text message. The phone app is decent, and you don't need service / internet to use it.
The mini 2 is a solid performer. Battery lasts the entire weekend for me. After two uses i'm happy with the inreach mini 2 and it performs as it should.

The interface with the garmin explore website is too poor for as long as they have been at it. The garmin base camp app on the desktop has the same lousy look+feel. You can only zoom in far enough to see about half of my home state.
You have to buy a subscription to even function minimally. Overall, my cellphone does better for free.
Has a lot of useless junk on it that might account for the battery dying after only 4 hours use.
