getting to hotel was a little longer from airport due to lots of construction going on ahead of getting to this RIU hotel location but nothing you cant handle It is a large property with numerous pools and swimup bars One smaller pool was dedicated for volleyball and that was a good idea The beach was quite large and really nice layout with 3 rows of palm trees the entire length of the beach which continued over to the Palace right next door We never had to search long to find a spot and every group of chairs had a small table to put your drinks or store you sunscreen sunglasses etc etc All the chairs were new and they arranged them every evening When we got there early in the morning the loungechairs were lined up like soldiers Very clean beach with nice soft sand Seaweed was no worse than anywhere else in Cancun but they did seem to rake it up everyday The only thing we did find lacking was enough waiters to serve drinks The ones they had working really worked hard but just not enough of them to handle large crowds We believe because the hotel is so new theyre still trying to fill spots The same can be said for the restaurants We ate at the Italian place for lunch a few days and it was hit or miss One day the waitress came by every few minutes to check on us for refill of water or wine and clear plates On another visit we went and grabbed the wine and refilled our own water Not a big deal but we do tip and most times that makes a difference The best restaurant was handsdown The Kulinarium We ate dinner there 5 of the 7 nights and EVERY meal was great The manager Renee and all of the staff were super And they really did hustle as in almost running These poor guys were sweating Again we think they were understaffed however just a great job by all the waiters and other wait staff nWe would recommend this hotel to anyone however and this is just us we strongly would recommend a few ways to help improve the vacation experience 1 Train your staff not picking on any one group to be a little more friendly and even on a bad day your staff should act like theyre happy to be there Dont let staff look down at the ground when passing guests Its part of the job to make the guests feel a little special not like someones forced the staff to do the guest a favor On numerous early mornings the cleaning staff was friendlier than the other regular hotel Costa Mujeres is an up and coming area so enjoy the seclusion while you can if thats your thing There is only 1 main washroom for all the pools and the beach combined located by the towel kiosk The washroom at the buffet is accessible from the pools and convenient if youre at the kids pool or water park We were surprised smoking was not prohibited considering this hotel is celebrated for being family friendly An abundance of ashtrays are everywhere and as it may be an ecofriendly decision it also appears smoking was almost welcomednnRooms 45nOur room was on the 4th floor above the lobby 455 star range That said we were happy with the fresh salad and fruits at the buffet and the cooked food was good although it could use more variety There is a bbq station by the family pool where you because there was too much cigarette smoke around the seating areannService 355nThis was a hit or miss Housekeeping varied from staff member to staff member The attendant we had the first half of the trip neglected a few things and service was inconsistent but the attendant for the second half was excellent and very meticulous and consistent with 5 star service We highly highly recommend washing the cups in the room before daily use or better yet bring a cup from the bar because housekeeping does not replace them as they dont carry any newclean cups on any of the cleaning carts we checked around hallways We scanned the numerous carts up and down the halls daily and not one carried replacement cups The used cups in the rooms are simply wiped down during cleaning We cant confirm the actual cleaning process but we found wet streaks on the cups daily and a leftover chemical smell in them The thought of someone using a used rag or cloth for cleaning other things and then on the cups is terrifying This issue was brought up to front desk along with a request for a room make up after a missed cleaning but was somehow not logged by the original agent who took the call The next agent suggested that maybe we made a mistake and never made the call in the first place Therefore we recommend asking the front desk agent for their name at each request to make sure there is a level of accountability and better chances of a pleasant resolution of any request or issues With respect to the service at the restaurants and the bars excellent Each staff member was attentive and
