This review of SoCal Synthetic Turf is a mixed bag of stars.  It ranges from 1 star to 5 stars. CJ (owner) from Socal come over and gave me a written quote on 7/28/15 (5 STARS for professionalism and know how).  10% deposit was given.  Time and dates may not be exact, but are close enough.  He quoted a price for laying a 7x45 foot section of turf.  SoCal had installed the original lawn a few years back with the previous owners and we wanted him to extend the turf a few more feet into the backyard. He said he could start in the first week of September.  On 9/6 I had not heard from CJ (1 STAR)I called him and asked if he was still on schedule for the first week in September.  He said he got backed up on a job(s) and he could start in two weeks.  2 weeks later I received a call from Josh from SoCal who said the work would start on Thursday 9/24.  He said if I would not mind explaining to the crew what was needed to be done as he was on another job (l1 STAR since he should have done that).  Three workers showed up and commenced work.  All three were polite and respectful (5 STARS).  It took 1 day to prep and 1 day to lay the turf. I looked at the work next day.  The seam between the two turfs was horrible(0 STARS).  No one came to inspect the progress on either day (0 STARS).  I called CJ and told him that the work was uneven, the seam was bad had a severe dip on one end where the two turfs did not meet and the crew left the brick edging piled up that they were supposed to remove.  They also left a softball size hole right were we walk out to the backyard to the street where we almost stepped into it.  Easy fix for me, but should not have been required. He said he would come over.  Two days later he came and inspected the work and apologized and said he would get a crew over as soon as he could (5 STARS for his honest evaluation and agreement that the job had to be redone).  A few days later two workers came.  I again had to show them what was wrong with the initial installation(0 STARS-not my job).  They lifted the turf and laid a new layer of  Decomposed Granite. It took them 1/2 day to fix the problem.  Again no supervisor to ok the progress.  The fix was done correctly and the lawn looks great(5 STARS). Josh came over today to collect the balanced owed. He apologized for the need to correct the initial install. End result great, but more hands on by management so customer need not be involved with installation.  Read Less

Ironically I have not been in the market for synthetic turf...mainly due to my first job owning my own lawn care biz and loving the smell of fresh cut grass. It seemed like sacrilege to not have real grass growing. Plus I enjoyed mowing our small yard. However, the rabbits had started to take up residence and my aging dog's urine suddenly started killing it all.Now I had been thinking about a putting green for quite some time. Husband wasn't keen on this idea....roll reversal...right?!  One day we were at a friend's house for a party and he had just put in a putting green and synthetic turf. He told me all about the process and said he interviewed a half dozen contractors. Since his grass looked more real than what I had seen in my neighborhood my curiosity was piqued. One conversation over wine (ok much wine) with my husband and he was convinced. I talked to CJ at SoCal within a week after that party and was surprised that the price seemed reasonable. We launched the project.These guys are hardworking and I learned that installing synthetic turf and putting greens is not a science, but more of an art. This company takes their work seriously and will ensure you are happy. At the end of the job CJ came out because Josh had mentioned that the putting green had some imperfections that he thought were due to the manufacturer. My untrained eye slightly noticed a few things, but it was CJ who initiated contact with the supplier and called me to tell that they were going to redo the entire green at no charge. Wow...talk about service. The second green had a few puckers at the edge but Josh and his crew made it right. My friend has had the same experience with CJ and his crew. If you feel your green needs to run faster they come out to re-roll it. So our project started with the backyard but after my husband saw the finished project he insisted we do the front yard too. I don't think it was me who sold him on it...but CJ and the outstanding job from his team.  Read Less
