remembered and we certainly were not dissapointed I had emailed the Hotel 2 weeks before we were due to arrive to ask if it was possible to have the same room we enjoyed the year before reception replied that they would try their best but could not promise but what they did do was allow us to book in on a return email to save us time when we did arrive which was very welcome after travelling for 10 hours On arrival at the Palace we were informed that the room we had requested was not free but they then went on to offer us a room upgrade which was one facing the fountainsreally lovely and peacefulnThe room was very clean with fluffy soft white towels the bedding immaculate and the bed very comfortable although i do enjoy sleeping on a firm mattressnWe did have an issue with the Jacuzzi bath not working but 1 phone call had a maintenance man in our room within 10 mins and the problem sortednThe food in the main resturant was really delicious the breakfast choice was vast but the Bacon and Sausage was not to my English taste Lunchtime in the beach resturant was also very good i did have a huge issue with the birds flying in and pecking at the puddings on the edge of the display area The staff do shoo them off but the birds keep returning as soon as the waiters turn their backA word of advise if you choose your meal and put it down on your table then wander off to get somthing else ie a drink the birds will be on your meal like a rocket Now the hotel can not control us leaving our food for a few moments they could change the open style of the pudding display and have pull down covers which would prevent the birds sharing the food ect yes this may make it a little more difficult to serve yourself but if there note around to explain why the covers were in use the majority of guests would understand so always pick your pudding from the centre of the displaynWe were thoroughly spoilt by the all the staff from cleaners to waiters to the gardeners who never stop working and always with a smile and a Hola to everyonenThe guys on the beach work relentlessly to clean and remove the Sargassum seaweed which is a continuing problem across many Carribbean resorts not just Playacar and although we struggled to get a clear blue sea view because of this issue it did not stop us going into the sea we did have to wade through the weed once in it was really good fun but i did notice that a lot of people would not venture into the water We have been to this resort now 15 times so have of course seen the beach at its picture perfect best but if this was your first visit i can understand if you were sad at how it looks at the moment some days there was very small amounts others the weed was very heavy i would rather see this natural occurance rather that lots of plastic garbage Mentioning plastic no straws are offered with any Cocktails or drinks i personally do like to use a straw so took paper ones with me Waiter service on the beach is a real treat especially as when we were there the tempreture was in the low to med 30s thank goodness for the shade of the palm trees One negative on the beach for us was the amount of times we were offered month old twins It’s our 3rd Riu palace stay through Tui previous stays at Puerto Vallarta and Dominican Republican but more notably our 1st away with the twinsnnThis palace is what I would describe as a modern palace still keeping some of the grand features traditional with the original Riu palace but now with a very slick stylish finish nnThe hotel lobby dining rooms and entertainment are all very nice comfortable areas to spend time in Service is of a high standard which is what we have come to expect from a palace and we have not been disappointed I don’t think I have waited more than a couple of minutes before being offered a drinknnFood at the hotel is absolutely fine The buffet does have a very wide choice and is well presented to cater for all It has personally got a bit repetitive during my 14 night stay but that’s not really a criticism We have only used the main dining room for buffet due to it being simpler to use with young children so am unable to give an opinion on the alternative dining options that are available The only thing I would suggest the hotel do is give clearer signs to what the food is It is sometimes unclear or inaccurate eg meats in sauces but with no descriptionnnThe rooms are nice clean and to a good standard There is an open plan livingbedroombathroom arrangement with only doors separating the walkin shower and toilet So if you are not part of a couple or family you may take this in to consideration as possibly intrusive to some We did find that rooms at this hotel only come with a view if interior facing or at the end of the buildings U shape There is a very slight pool view but I don’t believe there is a sea view as the buildings are not tall enough and there are a lot of palm trees in between The interior view is which with a little fuss I was able to get discounted by 50 so it’s always worth askingnnThe hotels grounds are very large and a lot of walking has been required from this holiday This hasn’t been too much of an issue for us but I do not see this hotel as being modern in terms of its wheelchair access The hotel entrancelobby barreception is a floor above the hotel pools restaurants and the hotel only has 2 lifts based in the lobby area Unfortunately this creates quite a detour each day in order to get to restaurants in the morning or back to the room in the evening and needing the stroller for the twins at all times The lift is also very small with the stroller literally only just able to squeeze in with 1 adult We have found that we have covered more than 5km each day in getting around due to needing the lift The hotel should consider a ramp access or large lift at the stairwell leading down from the lobby and also at points further down the building closer to the poolsnnA couple of members of staff I would like to highlight for appreciation of their great work and attentionespecially when it came to our twins Nelcy at breakfast was great Extremely attentive and helpful and a credit to the hotel The same also can be said for Francisco who always made sure that we are happy during our meals and would create a positive distraction for the kids All of the staff have been great though They are all courteous polite and friendly and look to offer a high standard of customer servicennA couple of other bits worth mentioning The wiif at the hotel is the best I’ve had and is
