I had emailed the Hotel 2 weeks before we were due to arrive to ask if it was possible to have the same room we enjoyed the year before, reception replied that they would try their best but could not promise but what they did do was allow us to book in on a return email to save us time when we did arrive which was very welcome after travelling for 10 + hours. On arrival at the Palace we were informed that the room we had requested was not free but they then went on to offer us a room upgrade which was one facing the fountains,really lovely and peaceful.\nThe room was very clean with fluffy soft white towels the bedding immaculate and the bed very comfortable, although i do enjoy sleeping on a firm mattress.\nWe did have an issue with the Jacuzzi bath not working but 1 phone call had a maintenance man in our room within 10 mins and the problem sorted.\nThe food in the main resturant was really delicious, the breakfast choice was vast but the Bacon and Sausage was not to my English taste. Lunchtime in the beach resturant was also very good, i did have a huge issue with the birds flying in and pecking at the puddings on the edge of the display area! The staff do shoo them off but the birds keep returning as soon as the waiters turn their back.A word of advise if you choose your meal and put it down on your table then wander off to get somthing else ie: a drink, the birds will be on your meal like a rocket. Now the hotel can not control us leaving our food for a few moments they could change the\" open \" style of the pudding display and have pull down covers which would prevent the birds sharing the food ect, yes this may make it a little more difficult to serve yourself but if there note around to explain why the covers were in use the majority of guests would understand so always pick your pudding from the centre of the display!\nWe were thoroughly spoilt by the all the staff from cleaners to waiters to the gardeners who never stop working and always with a smile and a Hola to everyone.\nThe guys on the beach work relentlessly to clean and remove the Sargassum seaweed which is a continuing problem across many Carribbean resorts not just Playacar, and although we struggled to get a clear blue sea view because of this issue it did not stop us going into the sea, we did have to wade through the weed once in it was really good fun but i did notice that a lot of people would not venture into the water. We have been to this resort now 15 times so have of course seen the beach at its picture perfect best but if this was your first visit i can understand if you were sad at how it looks at the moment, some days there was very small amounts others the weed was very heavy , i would rather see this natural occurance rather that lots of plastic garbage. Mentioning plastic no straws are offered with any Cocktails or drinks ,i personally do like to use a straw so took paper ones with me. Waiter service on the beach is a real treat especially as when we were there the tempreture was in the low to med 30s, thank goodness for the shade of the palm trees! One negative on the beach for us was the amount of times we were offered how shall i say this? mood enhancing substances! Over 15 years this is the first time we have been approached, perhaps our resting face`s looked like they needed cheering up. :) \nWe love coming back to the Riu Palace Mexico and are now looking to return again in January, if you choose this Hotel i am sure you will not be dissapointed.","review_rating":5.0,"sentiment_class":"positive","sentiment_result":0.7969048889473683,"sentiment_breakdown":[["We returned to the Riu Palace Mexico for the 3rd time on 16/05/19, we were hoping that everything would be as great as we remembered and we certainly were not dissapointed.",["unknown",0.7195212]],["I had emailed the Hotel 2 weeks before we were due to arrive to ask if it was possible to have the same room we enjoyed the year before, reception replied that they would try their best but could not promise but what they did do was allow us to book in on a return email to save us time when we did arrive which was very welcome after travelling for 10 + hours.",["positive",0.8410423]],["On arrival at the Palace we were informed that the room we had requested was not free but they then went on to offer us a room upgrade which was one facing the fountains,really lovely and peaceful.",["positive",0.9644517]],["The room was very clean with fluffy soft white towels the bedding immaculate and the bed very comfortable, although i do enjoy sleeping on a firm mattress.",["positive",0.9574171]],["We did have an issue with the Jacuzzi bath not working but 1 phone call had a maintenance man in our room within 10 mins and the problem sorted.",["unknown",0.45867208]],["The food in the main resturant was really delicious, the breakfast choice was vast but the Bacon and Sausage was not to my English taste.",["positive",0.9269096]],["Lunchtime in the beach resturant was also very good, i did have a huge issue with the birds flying in and pecking at the puddings on the edge of the display area!",["unknown",0.5624272]],["The staff do shoo them off but the birds keep returning as soon as the waiters turn their back.",["negative",0.29379764]],["A word of advise if you choose your meal and put it down on your table then wander off to get somthing else ie: a drink, the birds will be on your meal like a rocket.",["positive",0.81001943]],["Now the hotel can not control us leaving our food for a few moments they could change the\" open \" style of the pudding display and have pull down covers which would prevent the birds sharing the food ect, yes this may make it a little more difficult to serve yourself but if there note around to explain why the covers were in use the majority of guests would understand so always pick your pudding from the centre of the display!",["unknown",0.75786626]],["We were thoroughly spoilt by the all the staff from cleaners to waiters to the gardeners who never stop working and always with a smile and a Hola to everyone.",["positive",0.9119903]],["The guys on the beach work relentlessly to clean and remove the Sargassum seaweed which is a continuing problem across many Carribbean resorts not just Playacar, and although we struggled to get a clear blue sea view because of this issue it did not stop us going into the sea, we did have to wade through the weed once in it was really good fun but i did notice that a lot of people would not venture into the water.",["positive",0.9253375]],["We have been to this resort now 15 times so have of course seen the beach at its picture perfect best but if this was your first visit i can understand if you were sad at how it looks at the moment, some days there was very small amounts others the weed was very heavy , i would rather see this natural occurance rather that lots of plastic garbage.",["positive",0.8167754]],["Mentioning plastic no straws are offered with any Cocktails or drinks ,i personally do like to use a straw so took paper ones with me.",["positive",0.9577436]],["Waiter service on the beach is a real treat especially as when we were there the tempreture was in the low to med 30s, thank goodness for the shade of the palm trees!",["positive",0.94717586]],["One negative on the beach for us was the amount of times we were offered how shall i say this?",["positive",0.93651676]],["mood enhancing substances!",["positive",0.9828629]],["Over 15 years this is the first time we have been approached, perhaps our resting face`s looked like they needed cheering up.",["positive",0.92059124]],[":) We love coming back to the Riu Palace Mexico and are now looking to return again in January, if you choose this Hotel i am sure you will not be dissapointed.",["unknown",0.45007482]]],"reviewer_fake_points":-100}

{"reviewer_id":"22BA04451A230D927CA282260AB085B6","reviewer_name":"moparhemirt","review_text":"Me and wife have been to this hotel no less than 12 times and the quality has only gotten better year after year. Over the years we have gotten to know the staff. And when we return we are always greeted by “Welcome Home”. Their kindness and professionalism is second to none! We love this hotel for so many reasons. The Riu hotel is located in a gated community and has several neighboring Riu hotels that are in close proximity to explore and Playa Del Carmen is also in walking distance. \nAcross the street is a Starbucks and a shopping center for people who don’t want to leave. The rooms are always clean and the maid service cleans your room every day if you choose. The food is absolutely amazing! And this year they built a place on the beach to get food for lunch! This year the Riu had Coco Bongo do a foam pool party which was a lot of fun. The beach at the Riu is awesome! You have lots of room to get a chair under the palm trees or you can lay out by the ocean. I love this hotel but my only real complaint is the entertainment. The Riu caters to adults and tries to keep noise to a minimum. If you want to party... you have to go next door to the Riu Yucatán or Tequila. If your listening Riu .. please address this problem... When people go on vacation, They not only want to have rest and relaxation but some of us like to have fun!! The Coco Bongo pool party was a great start!!! \nHighly recommend this hotel!!! 😊","review_rating":5.0,"sentiment_class":"positive","sentiment_result":0.8673474527272728,"sentiment_breakdown":[["Me and wife have been to this hotel no less than 12 times and the quality has only gotten better year after year.",["positive",0.97679126]],["Over the years we have gotten to know the staff.",["positive",0.8494314]],["And when we return we are always greeted by “Welcome Home”.",["unknown",0.66285396]],["Their kindness and professionalism is second to none!",["positive",0.8543333]],["We love this hotel for so many reasons.",["positive",0.9898663]],["The Riu hotel is located in a gated community and has several neighboring Riu hotels that are in close proximity to explore and Playa Del Carmen is also in walking distance.",["positive",0.9606558]],["Across the street is a Starbucks and a shopping center for people who don’t want to leave.",["positive",0.9340363]],["The rooms are always clean and the maid service cleans your room every day if you choose.",["positive",0.9760561]],["The food is absolutely amazing!",["positive",0.986201]],["And this year they built a place on the beach to get food for lunch!",["positive",0.9908614]],["This year the Riu had Coco Bongo do a foam pool party which was a lot of fun.",["positive",0.966137]],["The beach at the Riu is awesome!",["positive",0.96404856]],["You have lots of room to get a chair under the palm trees or you can lay out by the ocean.",["positive",0.9461691]],["I love this hotel but my only real complaint is the entertainment.",["positive",0.9902844]],["The Riu caters to adults and tries to keep noise to a minimum.",["positive",0.8231278]],["If you want to party.",["unknown",0.5881758]],["you have to go next door to the Riu Yucatán or Tequila.",["positive",0.8333432]],["If your listening Riu .",["unknown",0.76624787]],["please address this problem.",["negative",0.11642762]],["When people go on vacation, They not only want to have rest and relaxation but some of us like to have fun!",["positive",0.94615614]],["The Coco Bongo pool party was a great start!",["positive",0.9657357]],["Highly recommend this hotel!",["positive",0.99470395]]],"reviewer_fake_points":-65}

{"reviewer_id":"F16C421EE5CC8985EED4505B174EDF83","reviewer_name":"cfclee82","review_text":"I’m currently writing at the end of our stay at the Riu Palace Mexico in Playacar, Playa Del Carmen. We are a family of 4 with 11 month old twins. It’s our 3rd Riu palace stay through Tui (previous stays at Puerto Vallarta and Dominican Republican) but more notably our 1st away with the twins.\n\nThis palace is what I would describe as a modern palace, still keeping some of the grand features traditional with the original Riu palace but now with a very slick, stylish finish. \n\nThe hotel lobby, dining rooms and entertainment are all very nice, comfortable areas to spend time in. Service is of a high standard which is what we have come to expect from a palace and we have not been disappointed. I don’t think I have waited more than a couple of minutes before being offered a drink.\n\nFood at the hotel is absolutely fine. The buffet does have a very wide choice and is well presented to cater for all. It has personally got a bit repetitive during my 14 night stay but that’s not really a criticism. We have only used the main dining room for buffet due to it being simpler to use with young children, so am unable to give an opinion on the alternative dining options that are available. The only thing I would suggest the hotel do, is give clearer signs to what the food is. It is sometimes unclear or inaccurate e.g. meats in sauces but with no description.\n\nThe rooms are nice, clean and to a good standard. There is an open plan living/bedroom/bathroom arrangement with only doors separating the walk-in shower and toilet. So if you are not part of a couple or family, you may take this in to consideration as possibly intrusive to some. We did find that rooms at this hotel only come with a view if interior facing or at the end of the buildings U shape. There is a very slight pool view, but I don’t believe there is a sea view as the buildings are not tall enough and there are a lot of palm trees in between. The interior view is of the beautiful fountains but exterior rooms unfortunately just face neighbouring hotels rooms and are a little dark and dull in my opinion. Interior facing rooms do come at a premium of more than $400 which with a little fuss I was able to get discounted by 50%, so it’s always worth asking.\n\nThe hotels grounds are very large and a lot of walking has been required from this holiday. This hasn’t been too much of an issue for us but I do not see this hotel as being modern in terms of its wheelchair access. The hotel entrance/lobby bar/reception is a floor above the hotel pools, restaurants and the hotel only has 2 lifts based in the lobby area. Unfortunately this creates quite a detour each day in order to get to restaurants in the morning or back to the room in the evening and needing the stroller for the twins at all times. The lift is also very small with the stroller literally only just able to squeeze in with 1 adult. We have found that we have covered more than 5km each day in getting around due to needing the lift. The hotel should consider a ramp access or large lift at the stairwell leading down from the lobby and also at points further down the building closer to the pools.\n\nA couple of members of staff I would like to highlight for appreciation of their great work and attention,especially when it came to our twins. Nelcy at breakfast was great! Extremely attentive and helpful and a credit to the hotel. The same also can be said for Francisco, who always made sure that we are happy during our meals and would create a positive distraction for the kids. All of the staff have been great though. They are all courteous, polite and friendly and look to offer a high standard of customer service.\n\nA couple of other bits worth mentioning. The wi-if at the hotel is the best I’ve had and is strong throughout the whole hotel. \n\nWe spent time at all 5 Riu’s in Playacar - highlights for us were the White Party at Riu Tequila, incredible atmosphere! The kids pool at Riu Tequila was also our preferred pool to use as had better shade and more for kids such as slides and water features. \n\nWe also enjoyed the infinity pool at Riu Palace Riviera Maya but we are told that this won’t be there for too much longer as it is also getting the ‘modern’ makeover. \n\nThe pools at this ‘modern’ Riu are ok, there is no wow about them. I’m surprised that they are leaving the infinity pool for the new 4 pool structure. It’s tidy but a little dull in my opinion. The pools here are also very warm due to the constant warm weather and offer little heat relief which will please some I know but disappoint others.\n\nOverall we’ve had a very good family holiday. I probably wouldn’t return but only as this hotel does not really suit our needs as a family. I personally preferred the Riu Palace in Puerto Vallarta when on a couples holiday and for a family holiday I would probably stay at Riu Tequila. Both of which are also considerably cheaper stays.\n","review_rating":4.0,"sentiment_class":"positive","sentiment_result":0.8736371372916666,"sentiment_breakdown":[["I’m currently writing at the end
