{"reviewer_id":"3BD156FE01696D4B50CBB88E51F387A0","reviewer_name":"Aaqa_family","review_text":"We've been back for 2 weeks now and finally made time for a full review. It was our first time to Mexico and our first all inclusive experience so it's hard to compare it to anything. We were 2 adults and 3 kids (1,4,7)\n\n** OVERALL ** 8/10\nA great family holiday for us! The kids loved spending most of their days in the pools making friends. I would not hesitate at all to recommend this hotel to family and friends. We have never gone to the same place more then once as the world is huge ;) but we would consider coming back here with the kids, and I think it would be even more enjoyable in a couple years time when our youngest is less dependent. If we return we would definitely like to venture out and explore more of the region.\n\nIf you're looking for more of the nitty gritty here is my wordy review:\n\nThe HOTEL (8/10)\nClean and modern, the staff were helpful and friendly, a few hiccups during the stay which were generally dealt with in a timely manner. The wifi (not that we really needed it), was great most the time. Some dead spots but nothing to complain about.\n\nFOOD (8/10 - although we are not very fussy)\nThere is lots of choice at the buffets (different themes each night but I feel it was 70% the same options night to night). \nFood was always warm/hot enough (thought I would mention as I had seen some comments about the food not being hot?)\nAt the breakfast buffet our family loved the crepe station, it was awesome! I also really liked the fresh juice/smoothie stand every morning.\nThe only negative for me is having to track down a high chair each time for the baby.\nIt was also nice to go to the a la carte restaurants a few nights as well, we chose: \n-Thai (starters soup was bland but I had an amazing curry there! My husbands fish dish was more of a miss according to him) \n- Japanese (I thought was delish although being from Vancouver and a sushi snob the hubby wasn't as impressed, it was a fun and interactive dinner) \n- Steak house (A good main dish, buffet appies were a bit random, our server wasn't the best)\n- Brazilian (yummy but the meat in Brazil is better ;) We were so full by the end of it!)\n\nBARS \nPlentiful and although we didn't drink much we enjoyed a few different cocktails (my fav was the Coco Loco), the bar tenders were great with dealing with our 7 year old who really enjoyed ordering himself kids drinks from them. One of my fav things to do was ordering a drink in the lobby bar then taking it up to dinner with me.\n\nThe SMOOTHIE BAR and COFFEE SHOP were nice options too, my husband who is a bit of a coffee snob was not super impressed with the coffee shop but I'm sure for the average coffee drinker it's fine! I enjoyed a nice iced coffee there one afternoon. My fav smoothie was the luum, once there was a man in front of me who gave the lady a banana to add to his smoothie which I thought was brilliant to add some protein.\n\nROOMS (9/10 depending on location, and staff involved)\nWere modern with comfy beds/pillows and towels. Some rooms seem to have A/C problems but staff was fast to fix it. Location of the room can make a big difference as I feel the resort is quite big/spread out. We were first put in the 1500 block and had some problems with the room (A/C, water pressure etc), the location of this block was not the best for us and our family of 3 young children, we requested a move and moved to the 1100 block which was perfect. We were on the ground level and it was fine, I didn't notice it to be noisier than the previous 1500 room on the 2nd floor and it was easier as we generally had the stroller with us. There are elevators though so it's not a big deal.\nWe enjoyed towel art every day which the kids loved. The patio was great although we only used it for the clothes line (provided) to hang swim wear out at the end of the day. The Jacuzzi is a neat feature (ask your concierge for bubble bath ;)) \nOur concierge Avi was super friendly and helpful. \nThe CLEANERS were efficient and the room was spotless each time they left, top marks to them!!! \nWe never used the safe as we really didn't have anything of value left in the room. Our belongings were never touched and I felt completely safe leaving things out.\nWe didn't use the mini bar much, only to grab a couple cans to give to a gardener who got a coconut for the kids to drink out of :)\n* Bottom line if you are not happy with your room speak to reception to deal with any issues or ask to move. I did this politely and never had any issues!\n\nPOOLS\nWe spent a few days at the kids pool, the 'quiet pool' and the activity pool closest to the steakhouse, all were good and offered something different. (Will mention that the loungers around parts of the quiet pool could use updating). One of the sides of the quiet pool had a nice breeze coming off the ocean which I really enjoyed. We visited end April, it was 30 degrees every day and humid so a nice breeze was great. It rained a few times during the night but nothing but sun during the days.\nWe also enjoyed the lazy river, really nice feature. The only suggestion I'd make is that it would be nice to have lockers/somewhere safe to leave belongings.\n\nSHOWS \nOnly thing that would have been more beneficial to us is earlier show times as a 9pm start is hard with young kids. \nWe did catch the Coco show which was well done. \nThe fire show on the beach the one night was impressive as well. \nThe mariachi band on the Mexico themed buffet night was a great touch, and the games they had set out were tons of fun!\nThe foam party on the one Saturday we were there was lots of fun, especially for the kids.\n\nACTIVITIES \nI tried the archery, air gun and bingo, all were enjoyable (Although I gave myself a wicked arm bruise at archery!) \nMy husband did the bike tour which apparently was great. I tried to do it one time but it was already full when I got there (I think a max of 20 people), I never tried to go again as the timing just didn't work with our 1yr olds nap.\nWe did check out the dolphins, although not really our thing it was something different to do one morning. It was a short, simple show, they obviously make their money through the private swims etc. For us it was a neutral experience.\n\nOur older kids never ended up going to the KIDS CLUB but did partake in the pinata bash on the stage 2 evenings during our stay and had a blast and it was fun trying out Mexican candy afterwards!\n\nThe BEACH was really nice, unfortunately there were red flags and mild seaweed most of the days we were there (no ones fault obviously) but it meant that we couldn't take advantage of the kayaks or snorkel options. \nIf the wind and seaweed stay away I think the beach would be AMAZING, not a long sprawling beach but a nice protected swimming beach which is exactly why we booked here. Even with the red flags and a bit of seaweed we waded in a couple meters and there were lots of friendly fish right there in shin deep water. The kids preferred the pools so we only had one beach day, however I did have a morning to myself on the beach which included a massage in one of the huts and it was great (the massage itself was mediocre, I had asked for deep tissue but it ended feeling like just a regular massage) but it was still so nice to relax on the beach for half an hour all to myself :)\n\nThe STAFF were professional and helpful, some more than others but no problems with anyone. We didn't really have the same staff at the buffet ever but by the end of our 11 day stay did see one or two of our favs a couple times.\n\nThe ICE CREAM shop was great (as well as ice cream being available at the night buffets), pretty sure the kids diet was 90% ice cream. Only comment here is that the shop decor is a little sparse, it could do with some love and a makeover.\n\nThe BBQ shack was our go to when at the kids pool/beach or quiet pool, has all the basics; hot dogs, burgers, chicken, fries as well as nachos and some basic salad options.\n\nThe Steak House did a lunch buffet as well so that was nice when we spent the afternoon at the pool by it. It also has a soft serve ice cream machine!\n\nWILDLIFE\nIt was fun to spot the animals around the resort, this I think was a highlight for our daughter. I just wish people would not feed the animals, they are wild and if you truly like them please don't feed them, just admire from a distance!\n\nRANDOM points:\n- Expect to be hot/tired/grumpy when you arrive. Most of us have a bit of a trek to get there and then it's hot/humid and big to figure out at first. Make sure your A/C works as soon as you get into your room, after a good nights sleep you will be feeling a lot more relaxed to enjoy the place the next morning properly. \n- It would be nice if the resort map was to scale :) It took me about 2 days to figure out the place...although I admit I'm not the best with directions! \n- It's wall to wall tiles, if it is wet you will most likely slip. Personally didn't have any issues as I'm a cautious mover ;) but our 4 yr old fell once as I was mid sentence telling her to slow down... \n- We did the members tour, was about 3 hrs of our time. The 3 gentlemen that we dealt with were all pretty low pressure. We didn't buy in but we were tempted more than we expected.\n- Cancun airport was not at all as aggressive and intimating as I had thought due to comments I had read.\n- We organized private transfers with Canada transfers which was great. They had car seats set up for all 3 kids and were on time. I would recommend them for sure.\n- If you can, DO the online Mexican VISA form. We did and we're glad. No line up for us walked almost straight through with no fuss at all. The line wasn't marked obviously so we almost missed it and lined up with everyone else.
