We loved this place! We stayed two nights in two rooms. #2 in the main house—slight issue with one of the door locks, but other door lock worked fine. 2nd room was on top outside floor—room is described as a place Bogie and Bacall would like—huge room with a balcony. Room was perfect. Breakfast was awesome, lots of fruits and yogurt, oatmeal, and a breakfast quiche. We would definitely stay here again!
[["After reading previous reviews of this B&B I was concerned about staying here but took a chance anyway.",["positive",0.89927894]],["We loved this place!",["positive",0.9668943]],["We stayed two nights in two rooms.",["positive",0.932713]],["#2 in the main house—slight issue with one of the door locks, but other door lock worked fine.",["unknown",0.4949981]],["2nd room was on top outside floor—room is described as a place Bogie and Bacall would like—huge room with a balcony.",["positive",0.8508398]],["Room was perfect.",["positive",0.9593753]],["Breakfast was awesome, lots of fruits and yogurt, oatmeal, and a breakfast quiche.",["positive",0.9570821]],["We would definitely stay here again!",["positive",0.86596733
03378302C69D62301ABD7F36DEFADBBD
pieter851
The Zaballa house consists of an old wooden building plus newer motel-style rooms in the new wooden building built around the old. There is a lot of free parking space.
I had one of the newer rooms, which was quite big. It had a couch, big queensize bed, coffee machine, shower, fridge. No airco, but a good fan.

What I liked was some old furniture, and the tv was hidden in an old closet, which I liked, because I never watch tv and I don't like to see a big screen in the room.

The breakfast was served in the main house from 8 am; it was excellent with at least 8 types of fresh fruit (raspberries, blueberries, bananas, melon, etc) and yoghurt, toast, bagels, fresh orange juice.
The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining how to get to the airport.

What I did not like was the wifi, which was very weak in the room, and even very slow in the main building. For me the wifi was important to check in for my flight and to contact home.

Note that the Half Moon Bay beach is very beautiful, but NOT suited for swimming, as the waves and currents are dangerous.

I would really recommend this hotel as a good place just before or after a flight from or to San Francisco Airport, which is about 30 minutes away (take 1 hour time in the morning, with the traffic jams).
[["The Zaballa house consists of an old wooden building plus newer motel-style rooms in the new wooden building built around the old.",["positive",0.96879387]],["There is a lot of free parking space.",["positive",0.9506527]],["I had one of the newer rooms, which was quite big.",["unknown",0.77538174]],["It had a couch, big queensize bed, coffee machine, shower, fridge.",["unknown",0.5212008]],["No airco, but a good fan.",["positive",0.94783545]],["What I liked was some old furniture, and the tv was hidden in an old closet, which I liked, because I never watch tv and I don't like to see a big screen in the room.",["unknown",0.6541854]],["The breakfast was served in the main house from 8 am; it was excellent with at least 8 types of fresh fruit (raspberries, blueberries, bananas, melon, etc) and yoghurt, toast, bagels, fresh orange juice.",["positive",0.98704135]],["The staff was friendly and helpful in explaining how to get to the airport.",["positive",0.8824749]],["What I did not like was the wifi, which was very weak in the room, and even very slow in the main building.",["unknown",0.6758484]],["For me the wifi was important to check in for my flight and to contact home.",["unknown",0.50092274]],["Note that the Half Moon Bay beach is very beautiful, but NOT suited for swimming, as the waves and currents are dangerous.",["unknown",0.43852887]],["I would really recommend this hotel as a good place just before or after a flight from or to San Francisco Airport, which is about 30 minutes away (take 1 hour time in the morning, with the traffic jams).",["positive",0.89517045
As I had a business meeting nearby I thought it would be fun to stay in a local B&B. Initially I tried to book a room online with the Zaballa House and when there was difficulty, I called only to be told that there were no standard rooms available. They tried to up-sale me to buy a suite room (which they reiterated in an email). That should have set off warning bells as I was able to book a standard room through the Trip Advisor website. The emailed receipts after booking from both Trip Advisor and their own website indicated a total price but when I arrived, I was told that the taxes hadn't been included adding another 12% to the total cost. While my room had a fireplace and clawfoot bathtub, it lack basic amenities such as a television, clock, bathroom essentials such as hair conditioner and provided less than a quarter roll of toilet paper (with no back up supply- I'm all for conservation but that would have been cutting it close for two people). While it was lovely to have a fireplace and a claw foot tub, I would have traded them for a tv or even radio to be able to get the news. I discovered an alarm clock wasn't needed as the trash truck showed up at 4am and a neighborhood rooster started in at 5am. Breakfast wasn't until 8am which is too late for a person on business trip such as myself and there wasn't even a way to get a cup of coffee. Fortunately there was a coffee shop a block away that opened at 6am. I have stayed at many B&Bs and understand that service and accommodations are unique to the location but Zaballa's service and provisions were well below expectations for even the most quirky guest house.
[["Half Moon Bay is a beautiful, small village by the Pacific that is well accustomed to hosting visitors.",["positive",0.8992496]],["As I had a business meeting nearby I thought it would be fun to stay in a local B&B.",["positive",0.873732]],["Initially I tried to book a room online with the Zaballa House and when there was difficulty, I called only to be told that there were no standard rooms available.",["unknown",0.47448578]],["They tried to up-sale me to buy a suite room (which they reiterated in an email).",["unknown",0.34656858]],["That should have set off warning bells as I was able to book a standard room through the Trip Advisor website.",["unknown",0.5971443]],["The emailed receipts after booking from both Trip Advisor and their own website indicated a total price but when I arrived, I was told that the taxes hadn't been included adding another 12% to the total cost.",["unknown",0.4572871]],["While my room had a fireplace and clawfoot bathtub, it lack basic amenities such as a television, clock, bathroom essentials such as hair conditioner and provided less than a quarter roll of toilet paper (with no back up supply- I'm all for conservation but that would have been cutting it close for two people).",["unknown",0.7460023]],["While it was lovely to have a fireplace and a claw foot tub, I would have traded them for a tv or even radio to be able to get the news.",["unknown",0.62885445]],["I discovered an alarm clock wasn't needed as the trash truck showed up at 4am and a neighborhood rooster started in at 5am.",["positive",0.8137184]],["Breakfast wasn't until 8am which is too late for a person on business trip such as myself and there wasn't even a way to get a cup of coffee.",["positive",0.95231545]],["Fortunately there was a coffee shop a block away that opened at 6am.",["unknown",0.6802814]],["I have stayed at many B&Bs and understand that service and accommodations are unique to the location but Zaballa's service and provisions were well below expectations for even the most quirky guest house.",["positive",0.84485316
DF775230E693EE11BDDA6DAFF5A2AC11
Patti M
When we arrived at the front desk with our friends visiting from The Netherlands the woman behind the counter had a chip on her shoulder from the get go... She offered no welcome or information about what was offered. We went upstairs to our “deluxe rooms” to find rather poorly decorated and not particularly inviting rooms. The website said they have showers in all rooms- telephones and a tv- none of these were in our room. The bathroom had a very deep jetted tub and a hand held shower head that could only used if you were sitting or squatting in the tub. The bathroom and bedroom windows has no screens and were cracked and held together with blue painters tape... the sink enamel was worn down to the iron and was stained badly. We went to check out our Dutch friends room. Another difficult tub to get into! No phone no tv. We kind of chuckled about it and headed downstairs to ask the inn keeper for a little ice for my water bottle. She said that her new staff had neglected to make the ice so she had to and it wasn’t ready yet! She suggested that we go to the grocery store down a few blocks and get a bag of ice- I said I had no place to keep a bag of ice. Her response was “ I guess you’ll just have to suck it up until the ice freezes! What the heck!!! She was a odd duck for sure-
As we left to go have dinner she reminded us that she was leaving soon and don’t forget to take your room key to get back in the front door or we’d have to scratch on the door like cats to wake who ever was staying there. Never saw anyone until the morning. The odd lady was gone and a nicer young women was there. The breakfast good- but won’t be going back☹️
[["When we arrived at the front desk with our friends visiting from The Netherlands the woman behind the counter had a chip on her shoulder from the get go.",["positive",0.90641195]],["She offered no welcome or information about what was offered.",["unknown",0.47639993]],["We went upstairs to our “deluxe rooms” to find rather poorly decorated and not particularly inviting rooms.",["positive",0.93882763]],["The website said they have showers in all rooms- telephones and a tv- none of these were in our room.",["unknown",0.42376715]],["The bathroom had a very deep jetted tub and a hand held shower head that could only used if you were sitting or squatting in the tub.",["positive",0.94997877]],["The bathroom and bedroom windows has no screens and were cracked and held together with blue painters tape.",["unknown",0.6704661]],["the sink enamel was worn down to the iron and was stained badly.",["unknown",0.3639934]],["We went to check out our Dutch friends room.",["unknown",0.77212465]],["Another difficult tub to get into!",["unknown",0.6877747]],["No phone no tv.",["negative",0.25218204]],["We kind of chuckled about it and headed downstairs to ask the inn keeper for a little ice for my water bottle.",["positive",0.9897065]],["She said that her new staff had neglected to make the ice so she had to and it wasn’t ready yet!",["unknown",0.7711392]],["She suggested that we go to the grocery store down a few blocks and get a bag of ice- I said I had no place to keep a bag of ice.",["positive",0.9367484]],["Her response was “ I guess you’ll just have to suck it up until the ice freezes!",["unknown",0.65302086]],["What the heck!",["unknown",0.60755193]],["She was a odd duck for sure- As we left to go have dinner she reminded us that she was leaving soon and don’t forget to take your room key to get back in the front door or we’d have to scratch on the door like cats to wake who ever was staying there.",["positive",0.9037123]],["Never saw anyone until the morning.",["positive",0.8627803]],["The odd lady was gone and a nicer young women was there.",["unknown",0.5628627
