As far as setup goes if you have a garmin ant usbstick id go the over the computer route rather than through the garmin connect app for iphone

I did it both ways i actually factory reset it and found that garmin connect over my browser was easier and less buggy than the app it seems like the app has been buggy since its recent overhaul

When i setup over the app the app wouldnt immediately sync the weight info

Maybe garmins servers were slow and the app was actually fine maybe the factory reset had something to do with it
