At the higher resistance settings it does pop as the hook slides slightly where it attaches to the adjustment screw

The clicking sound referred to by other reviewers may be due either to the handles coming together plastic against plastic or from the spring

If from the handles applying a very small felt furniture pad at point of contact would resolve the issue
