I was rather disappointed to find that the colors in the lovely illustrations are washed out

All the nice saturated blues in the original are rendered as pastel bluishwhite

Among other things this makes the night scene illustration look like day and it doesnt really help the rest of the illustrations

It is neither patronizing nor a caricature of asian culture which probably betrays the period in which is was written as an adult i would have expected the latter based on its publication date and the former if it was written today
