The 2014 edition note has a leatherlike material and grain pattern on the back and this cover mimics that such that you could be fooled into thinking that the case only covered the front of the tablet and you were looking not at the back of the case but the back of the tablet assuming that your tablet was black

The back of the cover also appears somewhat glossy

I have a white tablet and was happy to see that this cover also goes very well with the white tablet even though the cover is black

Only a thin sliver of white is visible around the edges and of course where the camera and spen poke through

I have used it both on a kitchen counter and on a wood desk and have not seen it give any indication that it would fall over even when pushing the home button or screen shortcuts
