Pros

Ayre digital to analog (d to a) converter is vastly superior to anything in the standard commercial world. Unique is its ability to drive high-end headphones without requiring a separate headphone amp.

The sound is superb. It delivers a very good sound experience. Simple operation, nice but not great touch screen and tactical *. You can hear the guitar pick and the strings - rather than just the strings.

The difference is that it is profound. In a heartbeat. That's a little exaggeration to illustrate, but it's true.

Drag and drop connectivity is the best way to move music to the pono. Navigating through the touch screen is pretty simple and intuitive. The pono's most prominent shortcoming is its battery life.

Pono music software is great for organizing the music.

Cons

The pono has a terrible user interface. Finding anything on the tiny touchscreen is a chore. The battery life for the pono is about 6 hours. The music quality is no different than an ipod.

The pono is even less volume into the 560's than the standalone ak. You can only use the headphone or line out to a portable amplifier. The amp is insufficient. Just go buy an ipod.

The triangular form factor for the pono means it won't fit in your shirt pocket. Imagine mailing a check to pono music for a pono player, with the amount $0. Save your money now and avoid disappointment later.

Transfer speeds are atrocious. Don't expect to be transferring anything in lossless format in any reasonable amount of time. Not enough memory, even at lower bit rate. Both of these items are apparently no longer bundled with the player.

The pono player and software are pretty backward. In my experience the program is awkward and outdated. The software on the device works, but it is cumbersome to negotiate.

Price

Of course the prime sounds better but they are closer than i care to admit especially since the meridian cost me two grand

Sony is touting their high res walkman for about 3 times the cost

Packaging/appearance

If you want to understand how good the pono is and how good its headphone amp is compare it to the fiio x5ii

They actually sound better when played through the highquality digital to analog converters in the pono

This is where each ear cup gets a dedicated audio feed for that channel two cables go the the pono player’s two audio out jacks

Competitiveness

And i havent even heard it at its higher res rates

In all honesty it is a bargain to get ayres engineering at ponos price point makes other daps look grossly overpriced for what you get imo

Do not even download and use ponomusic world

I added a 128gig sim and so have 192 gig
