Pepper featured most prominently on alfie and the especially lovely chelsea bridge is on superb form proving yet again that you can never tell from his playing how chaotic and dreadful his personal life was at time of recording

And you have to love that cover art which with a fiftyyear old rich in nehru garb in front of a wall of indian textiles couldnt be more jazz in crisis in 1968 than if rich had managed to get a photo of the whole band giving the black power salute at the mexico olympics
