I also have an older dell laptop that i tried to install drivers for and it would not see the connection due to the older usb1 ports
The only issue to watch for is use with older usb1 ports

I cant think of one single instance where it didnt work correctly or i had to reset the machine to get the dock to work

However be aware that my unit did not come with the usb to a to b cable that the pictures show i had to buy one separately from best buy

The biggest surprise was that not only does it support our stand alone monitors a 24 wide screen and a 17 tradition lcd but it also allows you to expand your desktop onto your laptop
