Pros
Each time one of the kids in our scout troop achieves eagle scout i give him a lansky. Easy to use and setup. Great little starter kit.
But shoving the rod in further made it better. Unless you have a robot like hand and 20 years experience, this is the best sharpening system available, period.
Cons
It's as if some of these parts werent put through any kind of qc, and if they were, they shouldn't have passed.

Read the instructions carefully and check some of the videos out there and you’ll get extremely sharp edges with your first knife

If you have knives made of the newer high speed steels you should probably get the basic diamond set

Honing or stropping will give you an even sharper edge but it’s not really necessary for most uses
