When the timer first gives power to this pump it will start in prime mode for up to four minutes then speed v3 then to v1

This is a great pump for the price but if you pay just a little more you will get a whole lot more in a newer model

It requires a timer for power on and off but it has a priming mode you can set for 30 minutes and then you can lower the rpms to save money on you power meter
