The trick is you dont know exactly who is on your team at the beginning of the game because all 3 cards start facedown

As it progresses you can investigate secretly peek at any of the role cards but even if you see 2 honest cards if the 3rd card is the kingpin that player is crooked

You can pick up a gun and aim it at a player but doing so requires you to reveal one of your 3 role cards
